A Big Season in Prospect for Idlewild The Parks More Beautiful Than Ever
A representative of this paper visited Idlewild last week and found the most unexpected activity there.
Superintendent Senft was on the grounds with a large force of workmen, and everything was being put into the finest condition for the coming season. Masons, painter, carpenters and laborers were everywhere hard at work improving and beautifying.
Ever since spring a skilled landscape gardener has been busily engaged in beautifying the lawns and islands. Flower beds of artistic design have been laid out in every available place, and thousands of shrubs and ornamental and flowering plants set out. Up at the dancing pavilion the windmill has been removed and a big four-sided stone drinking fountain built. Artistically arranged flower beds and walks are grouped around and all the woodwork has been brightened by fresh paint.
The shed at the stations has been doubled in length, and ample room provided for shelter for hundreds. The maze has been improved and on the big islands of lake Boquet (sic) an hundred improvements greet the eye. Probably the most striking improvement noticeable anywhere is the new and big woodland lake in the grove near the ball grounds. It simply cannot be described and must be seen to be appreciated.
The season promises to be a big one, and almost every date in June is now taken, something heretofore unheard of.
The opening of the season was on Monday, yesterday, when St. Vincents held sway. Here is the May schedule:
May 23d, St. Xaviers Academy.
May 26th, North Braddock schools.
May 30th, Stationary Engineers, Allegheny county.
June 27th, U. P. Reunion.
