Standard Gauge Steam Railway

H. E. Marker, an attorney of Greensburg, and W. H. Rupple, of Somerset, backed by capitalists of Somerset and Westmoreland counties, are now taking up right of way for the construction of a standard gauge steam railway to begin at Ligonier, at the terminus of the Ligonier Valley railroad, extending to Mechanicsburg, up Lynns run, across the mountains into Somerset county, and connecting with the Baltimore and Ohio road to a point near the town of Somerset. The syndicate owns large tracts of timber lands along the proposed route, besides land underlaid with minerals and valuable stone. An engineering corps will be sent along the route in a few days. The road will directly connect Westmoreland and Somerset counties.
