New Railroad
From Ligonier To Mechanicsburg And Into The Mountains
It is now about an insured fact that Ligonier valley is to have a new railroad which is to run from Ligonier to Mechanicsburg and into the mountain to tap the timber and mineral land. W. H. Rupple, Esq., a prominent attorney of Somerset was here last Thursday and Friday taking releases for right of way for the railroad along the Loyalhanna to Mechanicsburg along Linns Run to the Laurel hill to connect with a large tract of timber land and minerals. The capitalists who expect to operate said railroad and timber are from Williamsport, Pa. Mr. Rupple was assisted in the work of securing right of way by H. E. Marker, Esq., and R. M Graham, J. P. There has been no trouble so far in securing the privilege of passing through along the creeks named as every person almost owning the land is anxious to see the road built. The people of Mechanicsburg and vicinity look upon the project with much favor thinking it will be a business boom to that once active mountain village. If the enterprise goes on it will be begun in the early spring or sooner.
