Perfection at Idlewild Park
After years of labor of a very expensive nature the Ligonier Valley railroad company, which is composed chiefly of Pittsburg people, with the Mellon brothers at the head, have perfected their beautiful summer resort at Idlewild, and it is now one of the most delightful places in the state.
Superintendent George Senft has taken a great interest in the resort, and worked hard to make it what it is at present, and he is deserving of great credit for what he has accomplished.
In the first place nature had done wonders for the charming spot, but what nature neglected to do George Senft has so well performed that the artificial work harmonized with the natural, and the lovely lake nestling between the great hills, with their green foliage reflected in the clear basin, is a picture worth going hundreds of miles to see. All the walks and buildings have been placed in splendid condition for the great summer business which commences in a few days. Nearly all the dates have been taken, and enormous crowds will flock to the Ligonier valley from Pittsburg, Allegheny, Greensburg, Johnstown, Altoona and other places during the warm months.
Idlewild is the most perfect of pleasure resorts, and with the many late improvements it will be more attractive this summer than ever before. The company has spent upward of $10,000 in building artificial lakes and dams and providing pleasure boats, and now they have an ideal resort, which will remain popular as long as humanity loves the green fields, the wooded mountains and hills and the murmur of limpid streams.
The engineers of Pittsburg and Allegheny have a monster picnic at the park on Decoration day, and after that the place will be densely populated till the beginning of September.
