A New Railroad

Surveyors are at work on a railroad route from New Florence to Ligonier. They are closely following the route laid out several years ago by engineers on the P.R.R. Co. and passing through a portion of the valley rich in coal and convenient to immense quantities of timber. The road if completed will open up the valley to the outside world and make possible the development of its resources. There are several stories afloat as to the parties who are at the head of the matter but the most reliable is that the P.R.R. Co. is seeking a route around the dangerous "pack saddle" by constructing a road through the valley. Several indications seem to point in that direction and give credence to the story that it is the P.R.R. Co. that is having this survey made. The grade is easier and shorter than the "pack saddle" road and would open a new territory thus enabling the company to run two of its four tracks which it is building from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh via this valley and avoid the dangerous "pack saddle."
