A telegram from Latrobe says: Sunday evening 8 years old George Welshons, the favorite nephew and namesake of the late George W. Welshons, of Pittsburg, flagged a passenger train on the Ligonier Valley railroad, and by his presence of mind averted a back[sic bad] wreck and probably saved many lives. The boy discovered an open switch near a street crossing and ran to the Pennsylvania railroad pumping station to notify the engineer. Unable to find anyone, the little fellow seized a red flag and reached the track just as the outbound train came around a curve. The train was brought to a standstill only a few feet away from the open switch.
