Greensburg Press: A runaway car on the Westmoreland and Somerset railroad Sunday evening created a good deal of excitement for the time being. William Grove, a brakeman, was considerably injured.
The Byers-Allen Lumber company, whose extensive timber interests are located in the mountains, was bringing a car loaded with 300 ties to Ligonier, and when within five miles of the town a brake chain snapped in twain, causing the car to shoot forward with lightning rapidity. Brakeman Will Grove jumped off, sustaining painful though not serious injuries.
The car gained speed as it ran and the ties were thrown in all directions, some of them being hurled a hundred feet in the air. About two miles down the track was torn up for a distance of 100 feet, when the car was thrown over on its side.
