Railroad To Somerset
There is a general belief among the people of the valley as well as Somerset people that the Pittsburg, Westmoreland & Somerset railroad will be extended to Somerset next summer. If this road is once completed it will shorten the distance from Somerset to Pittsburgh more than forty miles and will be a great outlet to the timber and minerals on the mountain both on this side and the Somerset side. We see no reason why this road should not be run through to Somerset and also prove a financial success as it will open up a large extent of undeveloped country.
The new engine is running every day on the new railroad and there have been no accidents to delay in anyway the work of the road.
The Byers-Allen Lumber Co. received a car load of machinery for the lumber mill near town last week and expect another load soon to complete the mill.
