First Train Over a New Railroad
Special Telegram to The Times

Greensburg, October 18. The first section of the Pittsburg, Westmoreland and Somerset Railroad was thrown open for traffic today, when a train was run from Ligonier to Mechanicsburg, at the foot of the Laurel Hill Mountains. The completion of this section marks the first stage of a line that will eventually connect Somerset and Pittsburg by the Pennsylvania system. The Baltimore and Ohio system passes through Somerset and has the territory all to itself, but the route planned will shorten the distance to Pittsburg by thirty-five miles.
