A Delightful Trip
Our Local Scribe Visits The Byers-Allen Logging Camp

R. R. McKinley, our local scribe, in company with Contractor C. M. Thomas, was driven up the mountains above Rector, on Friday of last week. After leaving the team at the old Rector home, we proceeded on our journey up the steep mountain side to the famous woodsman camp of Thomas & Whiting, the enterprising contractors for the Byers-Allen Lumber Company.

These gentlemen have 50 woodsmen at work in the mountains cutting logs and lumber. These hard-working lumbermen have cut 200,000,000 feet of logs ready to be worked up into lumber. It was a very interesting sight to the write to see the 50 woodmen, with their long nailed lumber shoes, seated at the long dinner table.

We were shown all through the camps, the company's store, blacksmith shop, the woodmen's large dining-room and other buildings. This was the first trip of the writer to the famous camps in the Laurel Hill mountains, and was a most enjoyable and interesting one. Our scribe wishes to express his thanks to Mr. c. M. Thomas for all the courtesies extended him.
