Byers-Allen Lumber Company
Work on the new railroad of the Byers-Allen Lumber Company is progressing. The ties and rails are being put down and the road gotten ready for the engine and cars. The track is now ready for the engine about two and a half miles from town. On account of the impossibility of getting orders for material promptly filled the work on the lumber mill has been somewhat delayed and a number of men were temporarily laid off from work last week, however, it is expected to obtain the necessary material in a short time and the work will then proceed rapidly. Mill and road will be ready for operation not later than November. Mr. Byers is pushing the enterprise with much energy and Ligonier can soon rejoice in having a plant that will be permanent and of much financial benefit to the town. This plant will open the way for others and if our people take the interest they should will certainly develop our resources and improve all the varied financial interest of the town and valley. Let us encourage by our acts what we have and strive for more.
