The work on the mill of the Byers-Allen Lumber Co. is progressing well. The
machinery is being placed in position and other work being done to get ready for operation.
There are about 125 men employed on the mill along the new railroad and in the woods. It is expected that the mill will be ready for operation by Oct. 1st.
The Pittsburg, Westmoreland and Somerset railroad company filed a petition in the prothonotary's office last week giving security to take possession of a certain piece of ground belonging to Jane Ankney, in Ligonier. The bond was $200 and R. M. Graham and C. F. Marker were the securities. Marker & Hollingsworth represent the railroad company.
Geo. M. Earnest, candidate for county commissioner, and one of the hustling stockmen and farmers of the valley has bought a hay baler which arrived at Ligonier station last Saturday. Mr. Earnest has made arrangements to furnish the hay for the team in the mountain of the Byers-Allen Lumber Co.
