New Railroads
Considerable talk and some work have been done in the last few weeks in reference to building two new railroads from Ligonier. The one to go up the Loyalhanna and Lynn's Run into the mountain to tap the extensive timber of that region. A number of rights away and some other preliminary work has been done. Lawyer Ruple, of Somerset, and Williamsport capitalists are interested in this road. It is thought by some that this road will be built the coming summer. It would open up and bring to market an extensive lot of mountain timber.
The other road is to lead into the coal fields north of town and will go up Millcreek and Hannah's Run. A large extent of coal land has been leased on an option at prices varying at from fifty dollars to one hundred dollars per acre and it is the purpose of the company to develop this coal field. Engineers have been over the route and located the road and it is said the work will begin in a short time. This project is being considered by the
Soxman (sic - Saxman) Coal Company of near Latrobe.
