I.O.O.F. Picnic
The Largest Crowd At Idlewild Since 1892
The picnic at Idlewild on Wednesday last of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Western Pennsylvania was one long to be remembered by the members of the order and their friends who were fortunate enough to be present. The day was all that could have been desired for an outing in the woods, until the evening when a rain storm of about 15 minutes duration passed over the park, but those who were near enough to the large dancing pavilions and other buildings were afforded ample protection from the storm.
There were eleven sections as follows: One from Altoona, Conemaugh, Little Washington and Homestead, one from Aetna, one from Allegheny Junction on West Penn R.R., one from Uniontown and five from Pittsburgh, composed of 141 coaches, exclusive of those from Latrobe and Ligonier. It has been estimated that there were 20,000 people attended the picnic, which was the largest held at this famous park since 1892.
