What A Pittsburgh Paper has To Say Of One Of Our Townsmen
No man is better known in Pittsburgh than George Senft, who for nearly a score of years has been Superintendent of the Ligonier Valley railroad, and has resided at Ligonier, Pa. Mr. Senft was born and raised in this city, and was well known in business circles prior to leaving the city to take charge of the Ligonier Valley road. Among railroad men he stands high. Mr. Senft's chief work has been in building up the road of which he has charge. Since he assumed charge of the affairs of the Ligonier Valley railroad it has been changed from a narrow gauge to a standard track, and has become a valuable property.
Judge Thomas E. Mellon, of this city, controls the road, and under Mr. Senft's able management it has been brought to its present standard of excellence. The famous Idlewild picnic grounds, so well known to Pittsburghers, were originated by Superintendent Senft in 1881, and since that time more than a million excursionists have visited the park. Superintendent Senft also took an active part in putting Ligonier among the first-class mountain resorts, and has been instrumental in numerous improvements in that mountain city.
