Greensburg, Pa., September 29.
A riot occurred at Ligonier, this county, to-day in which General Manager George Senft, of the Ligonier Valley Railroad Company, was shot and badly wounded. The trouble arose through Mr. Senft ordering his repair gang, composed of a dozen or more men, to tear away a dam near the tracks of the company, which had been built by Dixon Huston, a farmer, and which it was claimed was damaging the railroad property.
The Huston family, composed of father, mother and two stalwart sons, made an attack on the railroad men with a Winchester rifle, shotgun and clubs. A desperate fight ensued. A load of buckshot was fired into Mr. Senfts lower limbs. John W. Ray, a railroader, was probably fatally hurt and three others were badly used up. Old man Huston was struck with a club and seriously hurt. Others of the Hustons were crippled. The farmer and his family were arrested and held for court.
