Lutherans At Idlewild
An Immense Gathering Of Western Pennsylvania Church People At The 13th Reunion
Nature never did more to make a perfect day for beautiful and romantic Idlewild than what she did for Lutheran Day at Idlewild last Thursday. The Thirteenth Annual Reunion of the Lutherans of Western Pennsylvania was a decided success as to weather, amusements and crowd.
There were nine special trains needed to carry the merry picnickers to the beautiful groves. There were two specials from Pittsburgh, one from Southwest P.R.R., one from Allegheny, one from Altoona, one from Etna, one from Indiana, one from Greensburg and one from West Penn R.R. The trains were large and crowded, besides the trains from
Ligonier and Latrobe, brought fully two thousand people to the grounds and a great many from the surrounding country drove there. Those who have been attending the reunions this year say Thursday's gathering outnumbered any yet held this season.
The number of people present were variously estimated at from eight thousand to ten thousand. The very large and spacious grounds seemed to be crowded with many picnickers everywhere who were enjoying themselves to the fullest extent. It was a large and quiet crowd of civil people seeking pleasure and amusement at Idlewild, the Mecca of enjoyment and pleasure.
