Lutherans At Idlewild
Fully 8000 People Enjoy A Picnic Outing - An Excellent Program
Lutheran Day at Idlewild is always considered the big day, and so it was at the Annual Reunion of the Lutherans of Western Pennsylvania, which was held there last Thursday. The day was delightful and the grounds could scarcely have been in better condition for a merry outing in leafy, umbrageous Idlewild. The crowd is said, by railroad men and others who have been present and are competent to judge, to have been the largest this year. It was variously estimated at from ten to twelve thousand; but we think eight thousand people more nearly correct. The reunion could not have been more enjoyable had the crowd been ever so much larger, as everybody was wreathed in smiles, merry and
light hearted. There were ten special trains with eighty-five coaches and ten baggage cars. Besides these there were still thirteen other regular trains from Latrobe and Ligonier which carried as many as two hundred people and more at a time.
There probably never were so many people drove to Idlewild before as Thursday. Several thousand people came in this way alone, and many from the immediate vicinity came on foot. It shows that more people are driving to the park year by year. Much, even most of the forenoon was occupied in getting all of the special trains in, as it was about noon when the last special arrived.
