Sad Accident

A Young Picnicker Under The Train Both Legs And One Arm Off Lived But A Short Time

A very sad accident occurred at the summer station in town last Thursday as the regular train was leaving for Latrobe at 4:45 p.m. Quite a number of people were in town from the Idlewild picnic and among the number was Albert Christman, of Indiana, Pa., who when the train had started ran after it and attempted to get on but fell under the wheels, three cars passing over him. Both legs were torn off, one arm mangled and part of the hand of the other arm was cut off. The accident happened about half way down the board walk at the station and he was dragged down the track several rods. It is reported that he was drinking considerable during the day. He died within an hour of the accident and was taken to the undertaking rooms of C. A. Lowery and the body prepared for burial. His father was here the next morning and the body was taken to his home for interment. This is the first serious accident that has occurred on the Ligonier Valley railroad and no blame whatever can be attached to any one in connection with the road. This is another sad warning to people in trying to board moving trains.
