Opening of the Excursion Season
Provided the weather is fair the excursion season in and near Pittsburgh will open auspiciously today, and will be indicative of what may be expected during its continuance. Nearly all the larger picnic grounds and summer resorts will be formally opened. The Pittsburgh & Lake Erie management expect that between 4,000 and 5,000 people will go to Alliquippa (sic) over their line to attend a picnic to be given n there under the auspices of the C. H. William Ruhe Fishing club of this city, who generally secure the first date of the season at that place and open the park. Trains will leave for the grounds from the station on the Southside at 9, 10:30 and 10:55 A. M., 12 M., and 1:30, 2:30, 2:50, 3:30 and 4:30 P. M. city time.
The members of the National Association of Stationary Engineers of this city and their friends to the number of about 1,500 will go over the Pennsylvania and Ligonier Valley railroads to New Idlewild. Two trains, as sections of No. 8, carrying those who will depart from the city, will leave the Union station at 8:10 A. M., and stops will be made at East Liberty, Wilkinsburg, Braddock, Turtle Creek, Wilmerding, Irwin, Jeannette and Greensburg. Excursion Agent Sloan of the Ligonier Valley road will accompany the party and have it in charge.
